This digital story format is a great way for the elements of a good personal narrative to come alive. Parts of the text are explicitly labeled for students.
I utilized the IMovie app on my Ipad mini II as the format for my digital story.
I believe that this digital story is appropriate for grades four and up due to the nature of the story and the underlying deeper meaning of the text. The theme of “taking a risk” is developed throughout the story and would be understood by a more mature audience such as primary grades. The humor also in the story is relatable to ages ten and up. Also, the length of the story is longer. The story runs 9 ½ minutes. This may be too long for younger grades to maintain attention.
I think that the final product was visually stimulating, with a mix of audio, pictures and video. I believe that my students will be able to see the story elements come to life and fill out their story mountain organizers. The goal is for the students to use these elements as a guide for their own story.
For next time, I would like to focus more on how the music creates tone in the video. I would definitely change the songs to reflect more of a sense of fear and tension, gradually becoming soft at the end. I would need to research to find the perfect songs for this video.
